The origins and aspirations of this site are probably best
summed up in this notice handed out at the first Pioneers reunion. Thanks to Vianney Waters for the first reunion of the first intake of undergraduate
males (termed by Vianney as 'The Pioneers').
With nostalgia firmly on the agenda, thoughts turned to my archive of photographs and tape recordings. As the latter were potentially the more fragile I was interested to see how they had survived the past 40 years. Once I'd found an old reel-to-reel tape recorder that worked, my first re-acquaintance was magical - despite the obvious recording flaws. Time constraints and lack of a suitable scanner dictated that exploring my photographic archive will have to wait. When time permits I will digitally enhance the recordings with a view to distribution, although before distribution I need to establish whether there are copyright issues. Looking beyond the tapes, I am mindful that the Pioneers (both male and female) have been somewhat neglected in terms of giving their account of student life. Between the Pioneer students there must also be thousands of photographs waiting to be catalogued. Personally, I would like to see this pulled together into a collaborative project, perhaps to result in a product that can be marketed to produce funds for the College. Our way of saying "thank you". I am therefore requesting help from anyone who might be interested in such a project, whether as a contributor, or more actively involved in making it happen. Since this was written the web site has been live for about a year and now contains both the Audio Archive and many Photos from the 1960's plus more up to date ones.
